Description
The dataset contains data collected from two nationwide sample surveys of Ukraine's adult population conducted in 1991 and 2006. The list of research questions addresses topics such as sources of information, opinions on safety, environment, preferences concerning economic and social systems, perceptions of social justice, morality, tolerance and prejudice, social equality and rights, marriage and premarital relationships, vision of relations with Russia and Western countries, attitude to the Act of Declaration of Independence, and attitude to public authorities (Parliament, Government).
In 1991, the survey was conducted from September 25 to October 25 by the research centre of the Sociological Association of Ukraine (which was transformed into the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology in 1992) at the request of, and based on a questionnaire developed by the Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) Research Institute. In 2006, the survey was conducted by KIIS from October 13 to October 24, using a questionnaire with most of the same questions as in 1991. Both the 1991 and 2006 surveys were conducted with samples representative of the adult population of Ukraine (aged 18 and older), each with an average sample size of approximately 2,000 respondents.
The background information includes respondents' socio-demographic profiles (gender, age, education, nationality, native language, occupation, marital status, self-assessment of financial situation) and place of residence (oblast, type of settlement).
The data is available in SAV format (Ukrainian, English) as well as in a converted CSV format (with a codebook).
The Data Documentation (pdf file) also includes a short overview and discussion of survey results.
