Version 1.0, published: May 21, 2024. Open Access 17
Description
The survey was conducted by Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with the Razumkov Center sociological service in Sumy and Chernihiv Regions and in the city of Kharkiv from 11 to 21 September 2023 using the CAPI (face-to-face interviews with tablets) method.
The survey includes questions about most urgent social and economic issues for the residents of the selected regions; their perception of the most pressing issues for Ukraine; their assessment of local authorities performance and the opinion about the distribution of powers between local self-government and appointed heads of military administrations in the wartime; identity issues (attitudes towards government language policy and interpretation of some events of modern history of Ukraine); trust in government institutions.
The survey was conducted using a stratified multi-stage sample with random selection at the first stages of sampling and a quota method of selecting respondents at the final stage (when respondents were selected according to gender and age quotas). The structure of the sample population reflects the demographic structure of the adult population of the surveyed areas as of the beginning of 2022 (by age, gender, type of settlement).
In Sumy Region, 254 respondents were interviewed, in Chernihiv Region ˗ 257 respondents, and in Kharkiv City ˗ 509 respondents aged 18 and older were interviewed. The sampling error does not exceed 6.3% for Sumy and Chernihiv Regions, and 4.5% for the Kharkiv City. At the same time, additional systematic sample deviations may be caused by the consequences of Russian aggression, in particular, the forced evacuation of citizens.
